Sacred Heart RC Primary School
Dear Parents
We were lucky to have “The Spiritans” celebrate Mass for the start of the school year. It was wonderful that some of you were able to join in the Mass so beautifully prepared by Year 6 and Mrs Dungworth. “The Spiritans” (Holy Ghost Fathers) will be working with Year 4 this week and we have changed the assembly date for Year 4 to THIS FRIDAY at 3 pm.
Just a reminder that photographs need to be in school by Wednesday 8th October and we should have them back in plenty of time for Christmas.
I am pleased to be able to tell you that Mrs Annette Bradshaw has agreed to be the Acting Chair of Governors, with the Chair of Finance/Buildings (Mrs Buckley) and the Chair of Staffing/Curriculum (Mrs Ansley) supporting her n this essential work.
We welcome Mrs Aniela Barszczewska, Mrs Diane Elford and Mrs Rebecca Tarran as the new governors appointed by the Diocese.
The Governors were disappointed last week to discover that the school has not been awarded any government money by the LEA and Diocese to replace the roof (the roof felt has been torn by the vandals who play on the school roof) estimated cost to replace is £200,000 and the fascia boards £47,000. The Governors plan to extend the nursery fence, provide adequate area and track for nursery are put on hold, as are the plans for a outdoor storage area, a sheltered play area for the reception class and an adventure trail for the whole school. The Governors are still trying to get some help and support with the problems with the roof and fascias as a matter of urgency.
The children would love to have an adventure trail. The cost for one for the whole school (including fitting) is £2,779 and one for nursery is £1,750. We are hoping that you, the parents/carers will be willing to help us raise the money for this. The children in the past have been very lucky to have parents/carers who have been willing to get involved and organise fund –raising. It is really worth while and ALL the children benefit greatly from the extras which the money raised by “The Friends” provide – please do try and help.
On Thursday 16th October we are having a Dora the Explorer and “SpongeBob Sale in the school hall at 3 pm. Mrs Garvey’s daughter works for MTV and she nominated our school as their charity. Please bring your neighbours and friends as we have received twenty boxes of goods.
The Christmas Fair is on Sunday 30th November 12 – 2 pm. On Friday 24th October (the last Friday before half term) we are having a “Pop Star Day” when the boys and girls can come dressed as a pop star and bring chocolate for the tombola stall. To make this day even more special Mrs McDonald is designing an “X Factor School Dinner Menu” for the day, and we are hoping that some of the children will entertain us.
If you are ringing school in the morning please do remember that Mrs Doherty does not start work until 8.30 am – so PLEASE RING AFTER 8.30 AM.
We hope you like the new look prospectus, a special word of thanks to Mrs Leeke, Mrs Ruane, Mrs Bannon and Mrs Moody who put in a lot of hard work to make this possible.
Mrs Garvey has so far interviewed four different football coaches and she is hopeful by the end of this week to have some news.

We are going to celebrate CAFOD Family Fast Day as a school on Friday October 10th. Please do save all your pennies and two pence pieces ready for that day.

All children are WELCOME – please meet in Parish centre no later than 7.10 pm.
And finally – just a little reminder for you all to be aware of our neighbours – please do not block their drives when you are collecting your children, or drop litter outside their homes.
Dear Parents
Thank you for encouraging the children to support CAFOD’s “Walk with us” Family Fast Day. We collected £211. If you would like more please look at the Cafod website or the display in the school hall.
Congratulations to Y6 and the Samba Band on their performance at the Performing Arts Festival at St Cuthberts.
The Spiritans worked with Year 5 this week and the children took home their own “Tree of Life”. Next week they will be working with Y3.
The kitchen staff are working hard preparing for our special X Factor Day next Friday, 24th October, when the children are invited to bring a gift for the chocolate tombola and come dressed as a pop star or simply in their own clothes. The School Council are organising an “X Factor Show” for dinner time.
Mrs Dungworth and Y6 were pleased so many parents/carers attended the SATS meeting. Mrs Walters and Mrs Smith enjoyed the “welcome” coffee morning with our Reception class parents.
Mrs Beasley has been working hard “adding” to our website – and we are hoping that the learning support sites we sent home last week are now live on our site.
On Thursday 23rd October we will be having a Parents’ Night 6 – 8 pm. We do hope that you will all try and come and see your child’s teacher.
The purpose of the Evening is for the teacher to talk to you about:
